Obtaining a radiocommunications licence from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) involves far more than submitting a form. It requires a deep understanding of frequency coordination, technical standards, interference management, and evolving regulatory obligations. Get it wrong and you risk delays, penalties, or losing access to the frequencies your operation depends on. BAI Communications removes that complexity entirely. As a licensed spectrum holder with in-house ACMA-recognised Accredited Persons (APs), we manage the full process on your behalf.
BAI Communications provides end-to-end ACMA spectrum licensing and management services for Australian organisations operating private mobile networks, point-to-point microwave links and land mobile radio services. BAI holds licensed spectrum and employs in-house Accredited Persons (APs) recognised by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). BAI’s APs handle frequency coordination, Frequency Assignment Certificates (FACs), licence applications, interference management and ongoing compliance obligations on behalf of clients. Industries served include mining and resources, energy, utilities, rail, healthcare, and heavy industry. BAI is based in Australia and operates nationally.
Obtaining and maintaining a radiocommunications licence in Australia is rarely straightforward. The ACMA regulatory framework involves multiple licence types, technical coordination requirements, interference management obligations and compliance standards that evolve over time. For organisations focused on running their core operations, navigating this landscape independently carries real risk, including: missed renewal windows, incorrectly prepared applications, frequency conflicts, and potential penalties for non-compliant operation.
The stakes are particularly high for industries where wireless connectivity is mission-critical. In mining, energy, and utilities environments, a lapse in licence compliance doesn’t just create a regulatory problem, it can halt operations entirely.
BAI’s in-house APs and RF engineers take ownership of the full licensing lifecycle, including:
Understanding which licence type applies to your operation is the first step in the process. BAI’s APs will advise on the right fit for your circumstances.
We assess your connectivity requirements, operational environment, and coverage needs to determine the right spectrum and licence strategy.
Our APs analyse your proposed assignments against the live ACMA register to identify the optimal frequencies and resolve any conflicts.
We prepare your Frequency Assignment Certificate and submit your licence application to the ACMA electronically, reducing both processing time and ACMA fees.
Your radiocommunications licence is issued by the ACMA, giving you the legal authority to operate.
BAI Communications’ spectrum and licensing capability draws on the combined experience of our engineering team and the former Titan ICT RF specialists, now integral members of the BAI team. Together, they bring decades of hands-on RF engineering experience, a deep understanding of the ACMA regulatory environment, and a proven track record of securing and managing radiocommunications licences across some of Australia’s most demanding operational environments, including mining, energy, utilities, and critical infrastructure.
This depth of expertise doesn’t just streamline the licensing process, it means your spectrum assets are managed by people who understand both the regulatory landscape and the real-world operational demands your network must meet.
BAI Communications provides spectrum licensing and management services to organisations operating in complex, high-demand environments where reliable, interference-protected wireless connectivity is non-negotiable.
An Accredited Person is an individual recognised and authorised by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to perform specific radiocommunications licensing activities. These include conducting frequency coordination, issuing Frequency Assignment Certificates (FACs), performing interference impact assessments, and submitting licence applications. Using an AP typically reduces the fees ACMA charges for issuing a licence.
Requirement for a licence depends on your intended use cases and network technology. BAI can assess and provide recommendations for appropriate private wireless solutions that meet your needs, including considerations for licence requirements and its availability. For Private Mobile Networks using 4G or 5G technology, an apparatus licence is required for operation of services.
A Frequency Assignment Certificate is a document issued by an ACMA Accredited Person confirming that a proposed frequency assignment has been coordinated and meets regulatory requirements. It is a prerequisite for obtaining an apparatus licence and can result in reduced ACMA administrative fees when provided as part of a licence application.
BAI Communications holds licensed spectrum in band n77 (3.4 to 4 GHz), suitable for mobile network deployments across metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.
BAI provides spectrum licensing and management services across mining and resources, energy, utilities, rail, healthcare, heavy industry, transport, and government sectors.
