Last month, five members of the BAI team attended the Women in Engineering (WIE) Summit 2025, and they’ve returned buzzing with ideas, insights, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Kathy Chung, Portfolio Director, Angela Cheng, Senior NOC Operator, Minh Nguyen, Structural Engineer, Lauren Burnett, Service Assurance Manager, and Sneha Singh, Senior Solutions Manager, joined other industry leaders for two days of powerful conversations about leadership, inclusion, and driving meaningful change in engineering.
More than just inspiration
“Honestly, listening to these amazing women in engineering and leadership got my blood pumping,” Kathy shared in her feedback. “It made me realise how much I want to be part of driving these kinds of initiatives at BAI.”
That energy was felt across the entire group. Angela connected with fellow engineers who were genuinely impressed by the work our NOC team does, particularly how our operators manage It was a proud moment that highlighted the calibre of talent we have at BAI.
For Lauren, one message resonated above all others: “What are we all doing to leave the industry better than we found it?” It’s a question that’s now sparking conversations across our team.
Key learnings to bring home
The event delivered practical insights our team is excited to explore at BAI. The distinction between mentorship and sponsorship stood out as particularly relevant – mentors talk with you but sponsors actively advocate for your advancement to decision-makers. It’s a powerful difference that could unlock new pathways for our people.
The importance of male allyship also emerged as a critical theme. Creating space for allies to support diversity in meaningful ways benefits everyone, not just women.
Authenticity over conformity was another consistent thread. Organisations that encourage people to bring their whole selves to work see better performance and innovation. As our team noted, you don’t need to mould yourself to the norm to be successful.
What’s next for BAI
Our team has returned with powerful insights on how we can continue to build an inclusive culture at BAI. The next step is to review these ideas and, through support and collaboration with our DEI Champion Network, explore how we can embed them into meaningful actions.
Investing in our people
Supporting our team in attending the WIE Summit reflects BAI’s commitment to developing our people and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. The insights they’ve gained contribute to building a workplace culture that’s not only inclusive but genuinely empowering.
As Angela put it: “I gained valuable perspectives on how women can overcome challenges, advocate for equal opportunities, and grow their careers while remaining authentic to themselves.”
That’s exactly the kind of culture we’re fostering at BAI – one where talent is recognised, voices are heard, and everyone has the opportunity to make their mark on our industry.
